Sr. Principal Software Engineer – Software Architect (.NET)

Your Role at Baxter

As a Sr. Principal Software Engineer serving as a Software Architect, you will play a central role in carrying our .NET application software from product intent to working code. Working in close partnership with a fellow architect, you will translate product requirements into software requirements, shape those requirements into a sound software architecture, and implement them alongside the development team. This is a hands-on role that requires deep .NET expertise, strong design judgment, and a passion for building software the right way.

What You'll be doing

  • Translate product and system requirements into complete, unambiguous, and testable software requirements, and maintain traceability through to verification.
  • Partner with a fellow architect to define and evolve the software architecture for our .NET application platform, weighing design alternatives and selecting cost-effective solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Produce and maintain requirements and architecture deliverables, including software requirements specifications, architecture and design documents, and interface specifications.
  • Design, develop, test, and deliver production software against the requirements and architecture you define.
  • Lead technical feasibility analyses to inform requirements, architecture, and roadmap decisions.
  • Establish and uphold architectural standards, patterns, and engineering practices, and serve as an independent reviewer in technical and design reviews.
  • Mentor engineers in architecture, design, and lifecycle methodologies, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Influence technical strategy and roadmaps, and present architecture, technical, and project overviews to leadership.
  • Plan and schedule requirements, architecture, and design activities, and coordinate engineers within quality, time, and budget boundaries.

What you'll bring

  • Associate degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience developing and delivering production software solutions on the .NET platform.
  • Expert proficiency in C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core, and SQL Server.
  • Experience designing and building scalable APIs and services using REST, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, data modeling, and SDLC best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, GitHub, containerization, and secure software development practices.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, asynchronous messaging technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ), and cloud-native application development.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and delivering solutions to complex technical challenges; healthcare interoperability experience (HL7 FHIR) is a plus.
