Principal Product Manager, BEX AI Experiences
Introduction to the Team:
For 30 years, Expedia has helped people plan and book the trips that matter to them, and travelers count it among the most trusted brands in travel. AI is now changing how people search, decide, and plan, and that change is happening faster than anything our industry has seen since travel moved online. This role sits where those two things meet. You will have the trust and travel expertise of a brand millions of people already rely on, along with the freedom to reinvent how a trip gets planned. The job is to move fast with new technology while staying true to the travelers who depend on us to get their trip right. Few product roles anywhere offer that combination.
You will set the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI across the Brand Expedia experience. That includes the AI tools travelers use today, the capabilities our platform teams are building, how Expedia shows up in other AI products, and new experiences we have not built yet. Your work will span contextual AI that understands where a traveler is in their trip, natural language search, agentic experiences that take work off the traveler's plate, multimodal inputs, and new apps. You will decide where AI should help, where it should stay out of the way, and how we know it is working for travelers and for the business.
Planning a trip is hard. People juggle dates, budgets, family preferences, and dozens of open tabs, often over several weeks. We want a product leader who is obsessed with that experience and believes AI can make trip planning feel easy, even fun. You will also have room to experiment. Alongside Brand Expedia, our portfolio includes Travelocity, Orbitz, and a long tail of brands such as Flights.com. That gives us places to test new ideas with different audiences and at different scales, then bring the winners to more travelers.
In This Role You Will:
- Write the product vision and multi-year strategy for AI on Brand Expedia, grounded in what travelers need and in where competitors and the technology are heading. Bring leaders across product, design, engineering, marketing, and brand along with you.
- Own the roadmap for AI-powered experiences across inspiration, planning, booking, and the trip itself. Keep it current as the technology changes, and order it by what travelers need most.
- Spend real time with travelers. Use research, behavioral data, and your own trip planning to find the moments where planning breaks down, and build from there.
- Get hands-on with the technology. Prototype with large language models, shape prompts and agent behavior with engineers and designers, and track new model capabilities for ideas worth testing.
- Set the standard for responsible AI on Brand Expedia. Work with engineering and science on how we evaluate, monitor, and tune models before and after launch, so every experience is accurate, helpful, and safe for travelers.
- Partner with engineering leaders and the platform teams building agentic capabilities, skills, and travel expertise. Define what Brand Expedia needs, shape the architecture choices and tech debt priorities that decide how fast we can ship, and agree on dates.
- Work with our partnership teams to shape how Expedia appears in third-party AI assistants and tools.
- Make sure AI feels like one connected experience across Expedia's apps, site, and brands, rather than a set of separate features.
- Own the business case. Make build, buy, or partner decisions, and take accountability for the financial results of what you launch.
- Design and run experiments across Brand Expedia and our portfolio brands, including new apps and experiences outside today's site. Decide whether to scale, change, or stop each one.
- Define how we measure success. Usage tells us whether travelers find the experience. Completed trips, multi-item bookings, and repeat travel tell us whether it matters.
- Raise the bar for AI product craft across the organization. Coach product managers on customer journeys, traveler personas, and clear writing, and help build a team culture that is inclusive and keeps improving.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or a related technical field with 12+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in one of these fields with 10+ years of relevant experience; equivalent related professional experience may be considered.
- Experience leading product strategy and delivering consumer experiences used at scale, with accountability for measurable business outcomes.
- Experience shipping products built on large language models or machine learning, including conversational or natural language interfaces, agentic workflows, personalization, recommendations, or multimodal experiences.
- Experience owning product vision, strategy, roadmaps, experimentation, and success metrics across a multi-experience or multi-domain product area.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including the ability to collaborate with engineering and science teams on model evaluation, monitoring, tuning, and responsible deployment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to lead AI product strategy across a broad consumer ecosystem and connect experiences across applications, websites, brands, and third-party AI assistants.
- Hands-on experience shaping agentic capabilities, skills, travel expertise, prompts, tool use, retrieval, memory, evaluation, latency, and cost tradeoffs with engineering and science partners.
- Track record of building new products within a larger organization, using experimentation and data-driven decision-making to determine whether to scale, change, or stop an initiative.
- Experience making architecture, technical debt, and build-versus-buy-or-partner decisions that improve the speed, quality, and economics of AI product delivery.
- Advanced use of AI tools and workflows to improve product development, with experience translating emerging large language model and multimodal capabilities into safe, useful, and measurable consumer experiences.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
