Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on‑site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager).

  • This role is eligible for relocation benefits

At General Motors, we are redefining mobility through human-centered design and advanced engineering. Our teams create vehicles and experiences that go beyond transportation—delivering safety, intelligence, and connectivity at scale.

About the Role

General Motors is seeking a highly skilled CAD Developer with strong coding skills to advance Generative AI activities surrounding CAD development, criteria compliance, and rapid response to portfolio and program changes. The ideal candidate combines strong Siemens NX designcenter and virtual vehicle integration capabilities with hands-on CAD automation and NXOpen development skills. In this role, you will create tools capable of releasing high-quality, manufacturable math designs while also developing robust modeling tools, workflows, and data integrations that improve design productivity and digital engineering execution.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented developer who understands automotive product development, robust parametric modeling techniques, manufacturability, and downstream engineering needs, and who can translate design and manufacturing requirements into reliable automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

NX Design and Vehicle Integration

  • Develop virtual vehicle integration solutions aligned with program requirements, design principles, and the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
  • Create, refine, validate, and release NX math modeling and criteria tools and techniques in accordance with standard parametric modeling methods, design standards, best practices, and Global engineering requirements.
  • Apply design for manufacturability, design for assembly, serviceability, materials, GD&T, and integration principles to component and subsystem development.
  • Deliver high-quality, on-time data releases and communicate status, timing, risks, and technical issues proactively.

CAD Automation Development

  • Develop NXOpen applications, scripts, and process automation tools that improve design quality, consistency, and engineering productivity.
  • Implement engineering rules, algorithms, constraints, DFM requirements, and best practices within NX tools and workflows.
  • Create custom NX user interfaces using technologies such as NXOpen UIStyler, Block UI, and Reuse Library dialogs, with clear user input and business logic.
  • Develop and support NX/Teamcenter PLM integrations, including data exchanges and connections to manufacturing or external data sources.
  • Collaborate with designers, R&D, manufacturing, deployment, and sustain teams to prototype, validate, stabilize, and scale tools for enterprise use.
  • Maintain code repositories, version control, technical documentation, and developer standards for automation solutions.
  • Apply software engineering practices such as unit testing, code review, defect resolution, and maintainable design.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional experience using Siemens NX for production design, CAD modeling, virtual integration, or related engineering work.
  • Experience with Teamcenter and VisMockup or comparable CAD/PLM environments.
  • Hands-on experience with the NXOpen API and C# development.
  • Experience developing CAD automation, process automation frameworks, or engineering productivity tools.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, GD&T fundamentals, and design for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.
  • Experience working with NX and Teamcenter PLM data, external data sources, and collaborative engineering workflows.
  • Ability to develop custom NX user interfaces and implement clean user-input handling and business logic.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to iterative feedback and changing program or user requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of software development, IT, CAD automation, or combined NX design and automation experience.
  • Familiarity with Parametric Design Techniques and Principles. Ability to Manipulate Parametric Templates via Coded or Agentic Solutions
  • Experience designing complex mechanical components or subsystems in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience writing unit tests and maintaining strong code coverage.
  • Understanding of how downstream users and systems consume NX models, datasets, and released product data.
  • Experience with Teamcenter ITK/RAC customization, dataset structures, CAD integration pipelines, or manufacturing system interfaces.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, GPDL tools, Knowledge Fusion, or legacy NX automation tools.
  • Exposure to CAE or analysis workflows, AI-assisted coding, or digital engineering data pipelines.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Success in This Role

Success will be demonstrated through accurate and timely releases, effective integration of component and subsystem designs, and delivery of automation solutions that are usable, maintainable, and aligned with engineering and manufacturing needs. The role requires a balance of hands-on design judgment, software development discipline, and continuous collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.
