What you will be doing

HSS’s Transformation Office (Atlas), was created to answer a hard question: How do we harden and optimize how HSS delivers care today — more efficient, more resilient, more scalable — and use those capabilities as the foundation for new business built on what HSS knows better than anyone?

At HSS, we are transforming musculoskeletal healthcare through intelligent, scalable data and technology solutions. Our Enterprise Data & Analytics teams empower everyone across HSS – including clinicians, researchers, financial and operational teams – with timely, trusted insights, intelligent technology, and data-enabled workflows that enhance patient care and organizational performance. We operate in cross-functional Product-Oriented Delivery (POD) teams, leveraging modern platforms to turn data, AI, and technology into action.

Alongside the data and AI products that power HSS internally, we turn HSS's clinical expertise and intellectual property into commercial products for health systems, partners, and patients — B2B and B2C offerings competing in a market that AI is reshaping in real time.

We are seeking a Product Manager to build in that environment. In this role, you will own data and AI products end to end, prototype with AI as a first instinct rather than an afterthought, and lead a matrixed team of engineers, designers, business analysts, and domain experts from problem to shipped outcome. You will help define not just what HSS builds, but how product gets built in an AI-native organization.

Who Will Love This Work

  • A product thinker and AI-native builder who thrives in ambiguity and is energized by turning complex business problems into practical data, AI, and technology solutions. You think beyond a single feature or application and look for opportunities to create capabilities that can scale across HSS. You don't wait for a spec or a sprint to see if an idea works; you build a working version with AI and put it in front of users.
  • An insight-to-action thinker who understands that the value of data is not simply producing an answer. You are focused on how products generate insights, how insights change decisions, improve workflows, and create measurable value for the organization.
  • A product-led adopter who thinks about the full experience of a product – from discovery and design through launch, adoption, and continuous improvement. You build onboarding, guidance, feedback loops, and other mechanisms into products so that new capabilities become part of how people work.
  • A curious technologist who stays close to what is emerging in AI, data, analytics, and technology, technically fluent enough to understand what is possible, challenge assumptions, and help translate new capabilities into practical solutions.
  • A bias-toward-action operator who moves from question to evidence quickly. You would rather ship a prototype on Thursday than debate a slide deck for a month, and you treat every release as a chance to learn.
  • A market-aware strategist who tracks how AI is transforming product strategy across healthcare and technology. You understand customers, competitors, and the shifting definition of what a product can do.
  • A technical partner who is fluent in git, the software development lifecycle, and modern data and AI architectures — credible enough to read a pull request, challenge an estimate, and make sound trade-offs with engineers.
  • A systems builder and multiplier who scales yourself. You turn repeated work into reusable agents, templates, and automations, and you share what you build so the whole team gets faster.
  • A matrixed leader who leads without direct authority. You create clarity, align people across disciplines, and keep a cross-functional team moving toward a measurable outcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of one or more data and AI products — from problem definition and discovery through rapid prototyping, development, launch, adoption, and iteration.
  • Lead a matrixed POD team of engineers, designers, analysts, and domain experts; set direction, guide the work, and drive decisions to ship outcomes
  • Build working prototypes yourself using AI coding agents and low-code tools to test assumptions with users in days, not weeks.
  • Work in the team's software development lifecycle — write clear requirements and acceptance criteria, manage work in git-based workflows, review pull requests for product intent, and contribute small changes directly where it speeds the team up.
  • Treat data as a product: partner with data engineers on data models, data quality, lineage, and semantic and metric layers so the products built on top of them are accurate and trusted.
  • Shape B2B and B2C products built on HSS intellectual property — conduct customer and market discovery, analyze the competitive landscape, and contribute to go-to-market, pricing, and packaging recommendations.
  • Track emerging capabilities in generative AI, agentic AI, and data platforms, and translate them into concrete product opportunities and changes to how the team works.
  • Build systems that scale your impact — reusable agent workflows, prompt libraries, product templates, and automated reporting — and teach teammates to use them.
  • Apply responsible AI and data governance practices — evaluation, guardrails and HIPAA-aligned handling of PHI — in every product you ship.
  • Communicate decisions, trade-offs, and results clearly to stakeholders and leaders, telling the story behind the data, not just the data itself.

What Success Looks Like

  • You own at least one product area within a POD and are the clear point of accountability for its outcomes.
  • You take an idea to a working prototype in front of real users within days, not weeks.
  • You ship 1–2 validated major releases per quarter, each with defined adoption or impact metrics.
  • You build at least one reusable AI workflow or system that your team adopts.
  • Your teammates are measurably faster and more AI-fluent because of what you build and share.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in product management, data, AI, technology, digital transformation, or a related field, with experience delivering solutions across multiple technologies and business functions.
  • Hands-on daily use of AI tools to build and work — including AI coding agents to produce working prototypes — with a portfolio of things you have built.
  • Working knowledge of git and GitHub (branches, pull requests, code review) and the software development lifecycle.
  • Strong SQL skills and a working understanding of data modeling concepts — table grain, dimensional models, medallion (bronze/silver/gold) architecture, data quality, and lineage.
  • Strong understanding of modern data and AI capabilities, including generative AI, LLM-based tools, agentic workflows, data products, and analytics.
  • Demonstrated bias toward action — evidence of shipping quickly, learning from users, and iterating rather than over-planning.
  • Ability to lead and influence a cross-functional, matrixed team without direct authority.
  • Awareness of responsible AI practices and of privacy and governance requirements for healthcare data (e.g., HIPAA, PHI).
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for audiences ranging from engineers to senior leaders.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and progress depends on learning and iteration.

Preferred

  • Experience with Databricks and AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
  • Experience with Python APIs.
  • Experience building or launching B2B SaaS or consumer products.
  • Experience in healthcare or other regulated environments.
